Key Features
- Full-color photographs and illustrations depict the laboratory setting today and aid in visual organization.
- Colorful graphic icons and in-text features center on safety precautions, critical timing, math skills, quality assurance, and other important issues.
- Suggested web-based activities and numerous review questions throughout the book reinforce readings and laboratory practice worksheets to let users assess their progress.
- Since safety is always a priority in clinical settings, these procedures are strongly emphasized throughout the lessons, particularly the safety devices, procedures, and technologies that prevent needle-stick injury.
New to this edition
- Expanded and updated lessons include all of the best elements of earlier editions--Objectives, Glossary, Review Questions, and Student Performance Guides—along with significant enhancements to every lesson in order to convey the most current accepted practices.
- Exciting new technologies and instrumentation such as nephelometry, turbidimetry, and automated laboratory transport systems, as well as bar code use on requisition forms, patient I.D. bracelets, and patient specimens, have all been added.
- Appealing visual enhancements including new photomicrographs of normal and abnormal blood cells add interest to the study of blood cell morphology, while many new tables and graphs for deeper understanding.
- All-new specimen lessons include chemistry specimen collection and processing, collection of specimens for microbiology, and the use of transport media.
- Newly added, helpful case studies and critical thinking questions require readers to apply principles from the lesson to solve problems, preparing them for on-the-job decision making.
