Canard: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in Practice (Expert Consult Series)

The first edition of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in Practice was written by leading French endoscopists and published in 1994. Its aim was to provide an easy to read, comprehensive guide to endoscopy. This, the third edition, is the first English language edition of the book. The authorship is truly international and we believe it provides a comprehensive guide to diagnostic and interventional endoscopy. The book adopts a practical approach, with step by step guides to performing procedures, the inclusion of clear algorithms which summarize clinical decision making and approx 1260 high quality endoscopic images and illustrations. Throughout the book, clinical tips are given to aid the endoscopist and potential ‘danger’ areas to be aware of are highlighted.

This new edition is organised into ten different sections. The first and second sections cover the essential prerequisites for undertaking endoscopic procedures as well as safety and quality issues relating to endoscopy. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth sections provide a step by step guide on performing diagnostic upper endoscopy and colonoscopy as well as imaging the small bowel and advanced imaging techniques: these include confocal endomicroscopy, autofluorescence, narrow band imaging and magnification endoscopy. Section seven covers the most commonly performed interventional techniques including recent developments such as radiofrequency ablation for early Barrett's neoplasia and mucosal resection techniques. The final sections have detailed chapters on two specific procedures: endosonography (EUS) and ERCP. These chapters have been completely rewritten and illustrated. As elsewhere in the book, the emphasis is on practicality and clear instruction on performing these complex procedures to the highest possible standard.

This first English edition strives to uphold the tradition of excellence established in the original French editions. We believe that the third edition of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in Practice remains an ideal resource for everyone involved in endoscopy, from endoscopy trainees and nurse endoscopists to established endoscopists, nursing and technical staff. We hope you agree.
