Perkin: Atlas of Clinical Neurology 3rd Edition (Expert Consult Series)

Some 17 years have elapsed since the second edition of Atlas of Clinical Neurology. Major advances have occurred in neurology during this period, particularly in the field of imaging. With such advances, the need to add a neuroradiologist to the authorial team was evident. I am delighted that Maneesh Patel from Imperial College NHS Trust accepted the offer. He has provided a wealth of information regarding "state of the art" imaging, along with a critical revision of relevant text.

In addition, this third edition has benefited from the contribution of another Charing Cross colleague, Russell Lane. Russell has completely revised the “Myopathies and Myasthenia” chapter and substantially modified the “Motor Neurone and Peripheral Nerve Diseases” chapter, incorporating anterior horn cell disease. Finally, he rewrote the chapter on “Pain Syndromes and Trauma,” producing an outstanding review in the process.

It remains a pleasure to record the ongoing contribution of Douglas Miller. He provided the majority of the pathology slides in the second edition, and he has, for this edition, revised and enlarged the pathology material.

A significant number of slides have been derived from other sources for this edition and acknowledgement is made with our great thanks.

In addition, I would like to thank the staff of the Medical Illustration unit of Charing Cross Hospital, and particularly Sam Bristol, for the invaluable help I have received in the preparation of the illustrations, and to Ann McGarry for her help in the preparation of the manuscript.

Finally, it is a great pleasure to record our debt to the staff of Elsevier. This edition has undergone a long gestation, and I am grateful for Susan Pioli for her encouragement and support, as well as the subsequent support provided by Adrianne Brigido and Taylor Ball.
George D. Perkin
