Written by a team of expert authors from world-renowned Parkland Hospital, this rigorously referenced, landmark resource tells you everything you need to know about the practice of obstetrics in a unified, consistent tone not found in other texts.
For decades, ob-gyn practitioners and residents have hailed the book for its thoroughness, scientific orientation, and practical applicability at the bedside.
Williams Obstetrics is reinforced throughout by a timely emphasis on evidence-based medicine, supported by state-of-the-art ultrasound images and original illustrations. The book's comprehensive coverage begins with an incisive look at maternal anatomy and physiology, and fetal growth and development. The text then progresses to the antepartum period, labor and delivery, the fetus and newborn, the peurperium period, obstetric complications, and medical and surgical complications.
The goal at the outset of this 23rd edition was to create a visual landmark to equal the written content. To this end, almost 90 percent of images in this edition have been upgraded or revised. Of these, 220 images were rendered by medical illustrators. It will also be apparent that almost all previous black-and-white photographs have been replaced by those in vivid color. This is supplanted by a thorough canvass of the literature with stated efforts to emphasize evidence-based management. To do this, almost 2000 new journal and textbook references were added, and more than 400 of these were published in 2009. The reader will enjoy studying its content as much as we have enjoyed conveying it.
