About the Authors
- Rick Daniels, RN, COL, Ph.D. administers clinical practicum courses in acute and critical care nursing arenas and is currently an associate professor with tenure at Oregon Health and Sciences University, School of Nursing. He has taught nursing in associate, baccalaureate and graduate schools, as well as RN degree completion programs. In addition, he has taught many adult health and illness topics at seminars and has presented posters for national organizations (e.g., AORN, NLN Educators Conference). Dr. Daniels' clinical practice is kept current by practicing nursing as a Colonel in the Oregon Army National Guard. He also serves as the Deputy State Commander of Oregon under the supervision of the Oregon State Surgeon. Dr. Daniels' research is primarily associated with the concept of health promotion and he has received three successive fundings with the Department of the Army to implement health promotion programs with National Guardsmen. Dr. Daniels publishes in nursing journals and holds membership in numerous professional nursing organizations, such as Sigma Theta Tau and the American Nurses Association. He is the author of several books, including NURSING FUNDAMENTALS 2E, DELMAR'S GUIDE TO LABORATORY AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTS 2E, and Manual OF LAB AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTS 2E. Dr. Daniels obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Oregon Nursing School, a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of San Diego and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas in Austin. He also presents across the country on various topics to nurse educators at Cengage Learning's Nursing Forums.
